Highland is pleased to offer a variety of classes for 2, 3 or 5 days a week. Our classes are able to be combined to create a schedule that fits your family's preschool needs.
Classes at Highland are distinct because of their:
- Low student to teacher ratio
- Developmentally appropriate curriculum
- Experienced teachers
The courses of study are designed to lead children in a developmentally, age appropriate progression from ages 2.5 years through 5 year olds. Highland is a faith based preschool with a focus on learning through play and introducing them to life skills. It is not our purpose to teach the children as much as they can learn, but to equip them with a solid, fun foundation to build their future learning in a loving environment and be kindergarten ready. Spiritual growth is invited through music, and stories at chapel.
Halos (Older 2's and Young 3's)
This class is designed for the older two and young three year old child (children must be 2.5 by September 2017) and provides a nurturing environment; keeping in mind this may be their first experience being separated from their parents. There is a focus on social and emotional skills with classmates, free play, circle time, art, chapel and large motor play, either inside or outside each day. It is not a requirement to be toilet trained for this class. Our schoolwide ZooPhonics curriculum is introduced in this class.
Preschool: (3's and young 4's)
These classes focus on socialization with others combined with an introduction to academics for a positive start to the preschool experience. This class also includes free play, small motor activities, circle time, art, chapel and large motor play either inside or outside each day. Our schoolwide ZooPhonics curriculum is introduced in this class as well as Handwriting Without Tears.
Pre-Kindergarten Classes (Young 4's and 5’s)
Our Pre-K classes focus on kindergarten readiness with the application of foundational skills needed for reading, writing, and math. This class has an emphasis of self-confidence, expression and intellectual growth through daily activities. It also includes small motor skills, free play, art, science, social studies, circle time, chapel, as well as daily large motor activities either inside or outdoors. Our schoolwide ZooPhonics curriculum is implemented in this class as well as Handwriting Without Tears.
English Language Learners
This class is designed for our non-English speaking children to become comfortable in attempting to speak English. It encourages children to follow directions, expand their vocabulary, and provide school readiness activities. Children need to be three by March 1st, 2017 to enroll in this class. ELL may be added as an additional class to any other class to create a five day schedule.
Extended Day / Lunch Bunch
In addition to our regular class time, we have the option for students to attend Lunch Bunch. Students bring their lunch from home, and can either stay after their morning class or arrive early for their afternoon class. Lunch Bunch also includes time for free play and activities once they have finished eating. This is a great way to help your child prepare the cafeteria when they head to Kindergatren!
